Tarring area information

It is possible to walk to Tarring, (St. Andrews - about 1.2 miles), from our B&B or drive but there is also the option of taking the no 16 bus  from Lancing, via Sompting, Broadwater, east Worthing, and Worthing to West Tarring. It's route goes along  Northcourt road just 150 yards away from our guest house. In general terms Tarring could be thought to cover the BN14 7 and BN13 1 areas and this will contain a number of attractions, avariety of pubs / restaurants and a number of Leisure facilities.

In the Tarring area and close by to our guest house there is:

  • Broadwater Cemetery - on the way between Merton House B and B in Broadwater and Tarring - the cemetery goes back to 1863 and was the main  burial space for Worthing and Broadwater. There are details of a number of well know figures buried here and the Friends of Broadwater Cemetery run various open days with guided walks.
  • St. Andrew parish church - 13th century church, Church Road, West Tarring, BN13 1HQ
  • Fig garden - dating back to the 1700's it is a private property only open 1 day per year, usually the 1st Saturday in July
  • Thomas a Becket pub restaurant is at the junction of Poulters Lane and Rectory Road. Its name reflects the areas link with Thomas a Becket. It is a Youngs pub with a good reputation for meals in it's  bars and and restaurant.
  • Opposite the Thomas A Becket is the  Gurkhha Tandoori restaurant, Nepalese cuisine and just round the corner is Asian Village for Chinese and Malaysian cuisine.
  • In West Tarring High Street are the  George and Dragon and The Vine pubs, both serving food. Also on the High St is the Parsonage restaurant, a grade II listed building.
  • On the southern / eastern border of the area can be found the home of Worthing FC and the Pavilion Bowling club.
  • Other leisure facilities are at Field Place. On the western edge of the area, nearest station Durrington-on-Sea, Field Place is not only a functions venue but has a number of  pitches for bowls and petanque, tennis and netball courts and South Downs Leisure use its facilities for many of its fitness classes, especially, yoga and pillates. If you are staying at our B and B on a regular contract with regular stays and want to take advantage of the South Downs Leisure facilities it will be worth considering membership as this provides "included" access and priority class booking. Field palce is also the location of a miniature railway with public running days operated by Worthing & District Society of Model Engineers

Worthing Town

We are on the A24 into Worthing and just 3/4 mile from the A27. There is private parking and also the adjacent street, Georgia Avenue, has unrestricted parking.

  • Worthing town centre is a 10 -15 minute or short walk away. Driving to the town there are a number of centrally located car parks as well as paid for on street parking. Many of the residential streets in Worthing have restrictions to allow resident permit parking but we have off street parking and unresricted parking on the adjacent streets.
  • Worthing centre has a good choice of nationwide shops as well as specialist local stores.
  • The Assembly Hall has many musical events, talks and of course Wurlitzer performances and dance events (check out the sprung floor!)
  • There are 2 cinema screens in the centre, the Connaught also features on live events.
  • On the seafront, about 25 minute walk from our B & B, there is the Dome Cinema (early 20th century), Worthing Pier and Worthing Pavillion. The Pavillion especilly is well known for putting on a wide variety of live events throughout the year
  • Along the sea front there is 10 pin bowling, bowls, pitch and putt and good level walking as far as Littlehampton.
  • Going East along the seafront there is mini / crazy golf, Splashpoint Leisure centre and further along Brooklands Go Kart, the Par 3 Golf course and Brooklands Pleasure Park. The sea front path continues to Lancing and Shoreham and  then onwards to Brighton.

For many of the areas in BN14 and the nearby villages in or near the South Downs we can offer perhaps the ideal combination of access to Worthing with it's communications, leisure  and dining facilities with the  convenience of easy access to the countryside.
