Merton House Access Statement

At Merton House we are committed to ensuring that all of our guests are given a very warm welcome and their needs are catered for effectively. It is of great importance to us to make every effort to ensure that we make ourselves aware of guests who have any special needs or disabilities in order that their stay at Merton House is as enjoyable as possible.

It is also our aim that guests with special requirements do not feel that they are discriminated against in any way and that they are welcomed in the same way in which we deal with all our guests.

We are committed to ensuring that all potential guests are made fully aware of the physical layout of the house so that they can make a fully informed decision as to whether Merton House is suitable for them. While we aim to meet the needs of all our guests, there are some features which might make access difficult for people with limited mobility.

Merton House is a 1930's house and is situated on the main A24 about 1 mile from Worthing seafront.

Access into the house is up one small step into the enclosed porch and a very small step through the front door into the hallway.

The front door is always kept closed so please ring the doorbell on your arrival.

The reception area is in the hallway where you are asked to register before being shown to your accommodation.

The guests lounge and dining room area at the end of the hall.

The dining room has separate tables and looks out onto the garden.

To get to the garden you have to go through the lounge and dining room.

There are two small steps into the garden, which is paved and contains tables and chairs. The garden is available for the use of guests, most of the time during the day.

Guests are welcome to use the lounge at any time of the day. There are two comfortable sofas, a table and chairs along with some magazines, papers and games.

Guests can always contact us, day or night, by a door bell located in the reception area. Our mobile telephone numbers will be displayed there, in order to contact us if we are not at home.

Accommodation. All rooms are fully en suite with a shower, toilet and hand basin.

For those that prefer a bath, there is a separate bathroom on the ground floor, which is available for all guests, or you may wish to book our "superior" room on the first floor, which in addition to the shower also has a corner bath in the en suite.

On the ground floor there are two bedrooms one of these is a twin and the other a double. They are suitable for people with mobility problems. Although the rooms are large, they are unsuitable for wheelchair users.

On the first floor there are four double bedrooms and one twin.

The twin room and one of the doubles, look onto the garden at the rear of the house.

There is also our "superior" room, which is much larger. This has a king size double bed, a large flat screen television, leather sofa and a much larger en suite, which contains a corner bath and a separate shower. The "superior" room is also at the rear of the house overlooking the garden.

There are 16 steps up to the first floor, with handrails on both sides of the staircase.

We unfortunately do not have family rooms and do not accommodate young children.

Whilst all of the rooms are double or twin beds, they can be used for single occupancy. Please enquire.

Parking. We have sufficient off road parking space for one car for each room, on the premises. There is also extra free parking in a quiet side road just a few yards away.

Visually impaired guests. Our aim is always to provide help and assistance at all times. Menus are available in large print and assistance can also be provided by us if required.

Guests with hearing impairments. We would ask guests to advise us upon arrival so that we can ensure we are aware of their needs, particularly in the event of Fire Evacuation.

Worthing has a shop-mobility scheme in place in the town centre at Liverpool Gardens.

The Red Cross is located in Salisbury Road and it is possible to hire equipment from them.

Worthing Town Hall is in Chapel Road about half a mile from Merton House, the local Tourist Information Centre is opposite the pier - about a mile from Merton House, for any information and assistance.

The bus stop into the town centre and railway station is about 500 yards away. Timetables are available and we can always obtain special information for you. Worthing station is about half a mile away and is easily walked in 10 minutes. We have a local taxi service that we can recommend.
